Women in Rukara Sector of Kayonza district were asked to report Gender Based Violence (GBV) to National Women Council (CNF) rather than handling it themselves.
This comes after a 38 year old woman from Kawangire cell is reported to have been strangled to death by her husband with a rope on July 30, 2014 over misunderstandings.
“Authorities cannot resolve what they know. Always report such cases to them for solutions than handling them in a wrong way,” said Agnes Nyinawumuntu the coordinator of National Women Council (CNF) in Rukara sector.
“Together with security authorities, we are organising training for women to help them understand family relations,” she added.
Some women in Rukara sector told this website that the incident is a shame to all women and promised to report such cases.
Gender based violence is any act that result in a bodily, psychological, sexual and economic harm to somebody just because they are female or male. This violence maybe exercised within or outside the household.
Over 57 per cent of Rwandan women are the victims of gender based violence (GBV) in their families by their husbands, according to a recent study.
