Shamsi Kazimbaya the coordinator of Men’s Care + project in RWAMREC said that research has proved that when men get involved in the health of their pregnant wives, and child birth and parenting it has a positive influence on development of children.
He said this while officiating at a training of health workers from different hospitals and health centers in Karongi district on Reproductive health, mother and child health through its Men Care + project.
He mentioned that men need to support their wives in their daily lives especially during pregnancy, parenting and family planning.
“We expect that after this training healthy workers will be equipped on skills and knowledge on how to involve men to support their spouses during pregnancy and parenting- and also research proved that as a consequence this involvement creates trust between the partners and also creates a good environment to a raise a child’ Kazimbaya noted.
Alphonse Mutabazi, a nurse at Mpembe Health Center says “I will make sure that in my daily work I urge men to support their wives especially during pregnancy and parenting because we have been taught that it saves the families a lot like, it re-builds trust which helps families and the people who within those families’.
Men’s Care +project operates in Karongi, Musanze, Rwamagana and Nyaruguru districts.
