Residents of Muganza sector, Gisagara district commended ‘Akagoroba K’ababyeyi’ (An evening for mothers) programme for promoting family development and minimising gender based violence among families.
‘Akagoroba K’ababyeyi’ programme involves parents in a community getting together on designated evenings to discuss challenges in their homes and the possible solutions.
“After attending discussions in evening for parents, my wife and I now live in peace. We even built a better house,” said Jean Nsengiyumva, a resident.
“We always fought over this and that without time to focus on family development. This led the family into poverty,” he added
“Many families live in harmony now. The remaining couples with conflicts are on the way to recovery,” disclosed Marie Frederic Kantarama, a member of committee in charge of advising families with gender based conflicts
Akagoroba k’ababyeyi initiative is not only a home grown solution to prevent, resolve conflicts in families but also a forum to discuss different development programs.
