Women and Girls’ Month to focus on Girls’ Education

As Rwanda joins the rest of world March 8 to celebrate the International Women’s day, a Women and Girl’s Month has been planned with different activities aiming to promote Women.

Information from the Ministry of Gender and and family planning indicates that the first week of the month long activities is dedicated to Girl’s Education.

Activities during the girls’ education week will include among other things, Mobilization of girls to increase their self-esteem through Role models at schools and community levels. 

They will also be debates in schools on GBV focusing on early pregnancies, reproductive health and drug abuses in collaboration with various ministries and security agencies such as the Police and Army.

The week will end with the awarding of the best performing Girls (Inkubito z’Icyeza and MALAYIKA Murinzi) in all Districts by Imbuto Foundation.

According to the Gender Ministry, this theme for the women’s day is: “the Gender Agenda: Gaining Momentum”. In Rwanda, the theme has been adapted to the current situation.

The Women and Girl’s Month will be launched at the National level in Musanze District on 8th March 2013 and closed in Gasabo District.

The day will be celebrated in all the Districts at the Village level where Umugoroba w’Ababyeyi Initiative will be scaled –up and strengthened.
