Polygamy and the habit of accommodating concubines has been noted as the most leading cause of family and land conflicts common in Musebeya sector in Nyamagabe District.
This was said during the general assembly of people and their leaders in good governance month program that was on 6th.Feb.2013 and attended by local authorities, MAJ, army, the police.
Colonel Callixte Kanimba, the army commandant in Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, Huye and Gisagara Districts advised people to stop polygamy and cohabitation and those who have different families to share their properties among the family members for the sake of the family members’ security.
Col. Kanimba reminded the people in Musebeya sector that polygamy is a crime punished by Rwandan law of which they should avoid. Musebeya residents were again asked to protect environment as it has effect on the country and to avoid all kinds of drugs especially the local brew.
Philbert Mugisha the mayor of Nyamagabe district appreciated the role local people are playing in maintaining their own security with the support of local leaders and security councils and asked them to keep participating in night patrols and keeping track on the actions of everyone in their villages.
After the presentation, there was a question and answers session where people’s problems especially on unending court laws, land conflicts, polygamy, and family conflicts were solved and others were orientated to councils for solutions.
Local people were reminded that Musebeya sector is not participating well in Mutuelle de santé medical insurance program as they are on the 14th position out of the 17 sectors in Nyamagabe district with 71%.
All people who had attended the general assembly agreed to sensitize at least five families each to participate in Mutuelle de santé medical insurance program.
After the visit to Musebeya sector, Buruhukiro sector was also visited and the same protocol of presentations and questions and answer session was followed.
