Women in Kiyombe sector, Gicumbi district have been encouraged to join cooperatives as a way of getting working together with others to improve their social and economic welfare.
According to Nyirajyambere cecille, the Women representative in Kiyombe sector all women should be member of cooperative since through forming cooperatives women have manage to get support from others and advise on new business ideas that have transformed their lives.
Nyirajyambere says that women have to be encouraged to join cooperatives as a way of empowering them to contribute to the development of the community and transformation of the family welfare.
She said that “through meeting held in cooperative, some women have successfully developed business ideas which have changed the status of rural women in general”
An example of such women is Nikuze Vestine, who says that she managed to modernize her agricultural business as a result of advice from other women in cooperatives. Nikuze says that she turned to growing high quality beans, and out of this business she has managed to purchase a cow worth Rwf40.000.
During a women meeting held this January 18, the sector leaders also urged the women leaders to form monitoring teams that are responsible for following up of the women’s activities and provide support needed at all levels of the community.
The selected women teams will be responsible over six cells and 67 villages- where they will conduct outreach programs to all women in Kiyumbe sector, as a way of implementing the recommendations of the meeting.
